He was born on 6 October, 1980 in Paris, France. Méïté started his professional football career in 1998 when he joined the French football club, Red Star 93. He played for them for two seasons and scored 3 goals in 28 games before moving to the Ligue 1 football club in France, Olympique de Marseille in 2000. He served this club for 6 years and gave a good performance in every season. He managed to claim 3 goals in the 152 matches that he played for Olympique de Marseille. In 2006 he was signed in by the English Premier League club, Bolton Wanderers. It was while in Bolton that he was in the public eye for all the wrong reasons. The coach blamed him for the team’s loss to Manchester United 0-2; also during the second half time he refused to come out to play stating that he was not fit to play, while the medical staff had a different story to tell.
